A year ago today I walked into my office here in Atlanta for the first time. This year has been a lot of ups and downs and a huge learning experience. I have learned a whole new city and I have learned a lot about myself.
Over the past year I have:
- Moved three times
- Rented an apartment and lived by myself
- Moved in with EJ!
- Over committed to activities (kickball, dodgeball, sailing, charity events) to meet new people
- Met a lot of new, interesting people - whom I can now call friends
- Discovered some pretty cool areas of Atlanta
- Traveled to Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, Arkansas, Texas, Boston, Maine, Connecticut, New York, D.C.
- Got a pup
- Had some great visitors (Cat, Nick, Eliza, Kenz, Nikki, Leigh, Ty, Alex) and looking forward to more this year
A short list of things I have learned in this past year:
- Atlanta is to be called: Atlanta, ATL, A Town - NOT HOTLANTA
- It SNOWS (and the whole city buys milk and shuts down)
- Everyone drives, no one walks
- You say hello to EVERYONE
- Atlanta has a strong music scene - especially in the Highlands and Little 5
- I dislike Buckhead - I am a casual, sit around the table drinker - ahh… how times have changed
- Decatur Farmer’s Market (‘nough said)
- I swear a lot (You can take a New Englander out of New England, but you can’t take the New England out of a New Englander)
- I am impatient (See above parenthesis)
- I love the sunshine and hot weather — the hotter, the better
- I appreciate air conditioning in my car and my apartment
I have been so good - well actually, I haven’t been blogging much recently, but I have been trying to spice up my life… HOWEVER:
Yesterday was Bubbles first visit to the vet. I am happy to tell you she has gained 7 pounds since we’ve had her and is beginning to look very healthy! :) Besides peeing on the floor upon her arrival inside, she did very VERY well.
So, EJ and I believe that Bubbles is a beagle, bloodhound mix… WELL, the vet said they think she has a little Shar Pei in her from all her little wrinkles. At first I denied it, but then I looked up a picture and THIS is what I found:
Bubble’s has the same chops coloring and wrinkley face but with a beagle body! She’s got the red coloring of a bloodhound, so it looks like we’ve got a very interesting mix!
Bubs is doing great by the way. She’s adjusting nicely. I’m a proud Mama - I rush home to hang out with her because she’s that awesome. Other interesting facts about her… she sleeps long ways on the bed in between EJ and me… who needs a child when you have a furry friend who snores louder than her Dad.
End making you jealous that my dog is cooler than yours. :) (JK…but not really).
<<EJ is working as an assistant coach for a college lacrosse team in Atlanta. Last night he received an email from the head coach telling them MTV was coming to scope them out as a potential team for a new show>>
Me:Hey, what are you wearing?
Me:Seriously, what are you wearing to practice, I need you to look awesome.
EJ:My -team name- sweatpants, shirt, jacket.
Me:Sweatpants? It's raining.
EJ:Ok, maybe I'll wear shorts and bring my sweatpants.
Me:Ok good - you should have a lot of character tonight. MTV LOVES characters.
<<Thinking about the Situation>>
Me:You know what... You should yell and jump up and down!
EJ:Ok...I gotta go.
Me:What? If they chose his team, I fully intend to be the crazy girlfriend who runs across the field during a game and slap EJ... It'll be my debut.
“Jenni always had a thing for nightclubs, but being the impatient & easily annoyed type never wanted to wait on the lines. It was the long lines, cold winters, and fake club promoters who think they own NY that got Jenni to realize that she wasn’t going to be like everyone else who had to wait or pay to get into clubs in the tri state area. After conquering the club scene on long island and much of Manhattans outlaying boroughs she realized she wanted to reach out to the rest of the country by telling her story through MTV’s newest reality show “Jersey Shore”.’;”—

hahaha - this show is a train wreck that I HAVE to watch.
Bubbles. Part 2 of TBD, but I promise my blog won't be 100% about this dog...
I just have to clear up something…
EJ and I have gotten some cracks about naming our dog Bubbles. Well if you were cool enough to watch the best show ever on HBO, “The Wire”, then you’d understand why we named her Bubbles. The character on the show was much like our Bubs here in the A. He was homeless and had some issues with missing hair on his face. Well our Bubbles is a rescue pup, so she was homeless and she’s recovering from mange. Soooo, there you have it. Now lay off the name, it fucking rocks.
"Bubble’s depo, get yer white t’s"
Cool fact about our Bubbles: EJ and I took her on a walk and she prefers to walk on curbs and walls rather than on the side walk. It’s hilarious. And last night she got herself into a doozy. She jumped up along this wall of this house on our walk and at the end it went up really high (not sort of drop off like it usually does), so she was stuck. Staring into EJ’s eyes, asking him to save the day… it was rather adorable.
Bubbles is our newest addition in the APT and all I have to say is I am a nervous wreck and I think she hates me.
This picture doesn’t do her justice, but she’s a mix of a beagle and a blood hound and loves to snuggle. It’s cute until you’re up til 10pm writing colleague assessments and then go to bed to hear her HOWL and WHINE… to a point where EJ brought her in, switched sides of the bed with me and calmed her down.
Did I mention I am not a dog person? I never grew up with dogs and I take my sleep very seriously. So my goal today besides…work… is to figure out how to make this dog like me and for me to not be a nervous wreck around her.
