This is the cover from this month’s Sailing World. Carina is the boat in the picture…and onboard are 5 or so people who I grew up with, went to school with, sailed with, etc. etc. They are currently in Charleston after sailing AROUND THE WORLD. Once they hit Charleston, they head back up to New England to prep for the Newport-Bermuda race…the conclusion of their around the world trip.
It’s moments like this where I sit back and wonder what my life would be like had I taken a different route…I took the route of going to college, getting a job in an industry that I love. But what if I had actually looked into getting onboard boats when I was still living in Boston, or taking that job in Newport rather than Boston. Where would I be today? Would Boo still be in the picture? Would Bubbles be in the picture?
Moments like this are when I sit back and reflect on where I am today, what I’ve done in the past and where I may be in the future. It can be deflating in that I have not accomplished things like…sailing around the world. But I HAVE started a family and love where I am today. I am thankful for my family, my friends, my life I have. But sometimes I wonder…what if?
